The Department of Civil Engineering at SJM Institute of Technology, under SJM University, successfully conducted the inaugural function of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Construction Practices & Materials in association with UltraTech Cement Ltd on 15th May 2026 at Sir M V Hall.
The Centre of Excellence aims to advance sustainable construction practices, promote research on eco-friendly materials, and provide students and faculty with exposure to modern construction technologies. The initiative fosters collaboration with industry leaders and supports hands-on learning, technical innovation, and professional development in civil engineering.
The inaugural function was graced by Sri. Shivayogi C. Kalasad, IAS (RTD), President of SJM Vidyapeetha and Chancellor of SJM University, as the Chief Guest. Guests of Honour included Er. Punnose P John, Zonal Head – Technical, UltraTech Cement Ltd, and Mr. Vijaykumar Bujurke, Regional Head – Marketing, North Karnataka and Goa.
Other dignitaries present were Dr. Basavakumar Swamiji, Sri S N Chandrashekhar, Dr. P S Shankar (Members, Administrative Committee, SJM Vidyapeetha), Dr. K B Gudasi (Vice Chancellor, SJM University), Dr. M S Ganachari (Registrar, SJM University), and Dr. Bharath P B (Principal, SJM Institute of Technology / SJM School of Engineering). The event was attended by the HOD, faculty, and students of the Department of Civil Engineering along with the UltraTech team, marking a successful launch of this collaborative initiative.
